Ubuntu 10.04 - Java issue

Buy default Ubuntu 10.04 comes with OpenJDK Java 6 runtime (or without any Java plug-in at all). And for my most important use of Java (Citrix, Bank ID, Net-ID etc.) I can't use these Java plug-ins and have to remove OpenJDK (etc.) and install Sun/Oracle Java 6.

Lets go through this.

In Ubuntu 9.04 all you have to do is to go to Telia's site ( https://cve.trust.telia.com/testa/ ), and fallow the instructions to install the software. For older versions of Ubuntu ( 8.10 - 6.10 ) please read on.

This is not an understatement at all, Ubuntu is really a wonderful project that (according to me) brings Linux to the next level. With every new version it takes a step closer to perfection.

“Out of the box” I don’t see any major problem with it for normal user use, but there are off curse some special needs that aren’t fulfilled and some hardware that needs some “hands on” configuration to work properly. I’m going to post things on this site that I have had difficulties with and how to solve them.

Most “howto” apply on most Ubuntu versions (even some other Linux distribution). These tweaks have worked for me, but its no guarantee that it will for you, so it’s on your own risk.
